Description
Tracy Pinot Noir Les Marnes 2023 is a lovely, fruity Pinot Noir from the Loire Valley. I nearly passed it by at a trade tasting as I wasn’t looking for a Loire Pinot but I am so glad that I stopped to try it. Wow! I was not expecting such a great tasting wine at this price. Pinot Noir tends to be very expensive, the reason often given is that it can be a difficult grape to grow. But this producer’s long history in wine-making (the estate dates back to 1396), its clay and limestone soils which make a good match for the grape and a good vintage in the Loire in 2023 contributed to make a well-balanced fruity Pinot Noir.
Tracy Pinot Noir Les Marnes, though light in style, is packed full of berry flavours – raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and dark cherries – with some peppery spice. The fruitiness and acidity make this a very mouth-watering wine that is a little too drinkable. It ends with a long, juicy but smooth finish.
Tracy et Cie (Tracy & Co) is the négociant business of Chateau de Tracy. Using grapes from selected vineyards in the Loire Valley, the team at Tracy craft Tracy Pinot Noir Les Marnes with the same skill and care that they use for the Chateau wines. The Count Alain d’Assay family has always owned the property and it is now managed by their youngest daughter Juliette. The Chateau is certified sustainable.
For another fruity light Pinot Noir try Andreas Bender Pinot Noir 2022. If you like a fuller-bodied, more intense Pinot Noir, you might like my Pinot Noir from Pegasus Bay in New Zealand and for a really classic, smooth Burgundian Pinot Noir, you will love Domaine Bachey-Legros Santenay Clos des Hâtes Vieilles Vignes.
