Description
Rutherford Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 is classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, rich, full-flavoured and elegant. Some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot is added to boost fruit aromas and flavours in the case of Cabernet Franc and colour, tannins and spicy notes in the case of Petit Verdot. There is a complex range of aromas in Rutherford Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 including the classic blackcurrant, cassis, pencil shavings and leather of Cabernet Sauvignon. Flavours are no less complex – intense black fruits like blackcurrant, blackberries and black cherries – combine with dark chocolate, warm spices, menthol and a hint of smokiness. This Napa Valley Cabernet is full-bodied and whilst in past vintages dusty tannins have been evident on the teeth in this vintage they are already well-rounded and integrated, in harmony with the fruit and acidity of the wine. This wine will develop further over the next 5 years but is lovely and smooth with a long finish and is drinking beautifully now.
The Rutherford AVA (American Viticultural Area) in the Napa Valley is renowned for its excellent Cabernet Sauvignon. Its wines like the Rutherford Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 are rich and full-flavoured and according to many fans display ‘Rutherford Dust’; according to the Rutherford Hills winery “some describe it as a chocolate or coffee taste, while others claim it is more of a texture that creates a full mouthfeel with big and smooth tannins.” However it’s described, it’s delicious!
