Description
Pierre Morin Sancerre Rosé is a beautiful Sancerre rosé wine produced in the Loire from the Pinot Noir grape. Pierre Morin’s family owned winery has expanded in recent years to still only 9 hectares which is in line with the Wines With Attitude mantra “small is beautiful”. Most of the Morin vines are Sauvignon Blanc for the more traditional white Sancerre but 2 hectares are dedicated to Pinot Noir planted on steep lime soils which give the wine Sancerre’s flinty characteristics.
Pierre Morin Sancerre Rosé is organically and sustainably produced (although not certified organic); yields are kept low by de-budding the 30 year old vines and careful selection of grapes at harvest which is done by hand. No herbicides or chemical fertilizers are used. The grapes are pressed directly after picking and gently in order to keep the colour and extraction from the skins light. Fermentation is carried out in steel tanks to keep the wine fresh but it is kept on the lees as long as possible to add to the complexity and body. This wine is full of crunchy red fruit flavours and has a little more body than the lighter style of Provence rosés. It also has some peppery notes. This is a wine for those who like a touch more oomph in their rosé. It’s delicious!
