Description
De Castellane Saint André Brut Non-Vintage Champagne has been my favourite champagne for many years after I discovered it and the champagne house’s impressive buildings on a trip to Epernay. At the time it was impossible to find de Castellane in the UK but fortunately things have changed since then and I am very proud to be one of the very few de Castellane champagne stockists in the UK. de Castellane Saint André Brut Non-Vintage Champagne is not necessarily one of the big, well-known brands but it is a really classy champagne.
Produced from a fairly balanced blend of the three classic champagne grapes – 35% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 30% Pinot Meunier – this non-vintage champagne has around 15% reserve wine added in order to maintain, year on year, a consistently fine and fresh style. Chardonnay gives the champagne finesse, citrus flavours, floral aromas and with age leads to buttery notes. Pinot Noir adds structure and red fruit notes and Pinot Meunier brings fruity notes and freshness to the blend. This champagne is lovely and biscuity on the nose with apricots and floral notes. The texture is silky with long-lasting bubbles. The palate is complex, very creamy with apricots, vanilla and warm spices; the finish is long and creamy yet dry. It really hits the spot every time.
On a trip back to de Castellane I learned that the merger of de Castellane and Laurent Perrier several years ago was a result of a marriage between members of the two families and that de Castellane will fortunately always be maintained as a separate brand. Note: You can also send a bottle of de Castellane Saint André Brut Non-Vintage Champagne as a gift
