Description
Wild Idol Alcohol Free Sparkling Rosé 2023 is the latest vintage of this top class zero alcohol wine. As long-standing wine-loving customers increasingly ask about no and low alcohol wines, I set about on a mission to find a good one. It took a while because, believe me, there are a lot of not-so-good ones out there often tasting soapy and / or too sweet and often with some residue alcohol left in – labelling regulations allow up to 0.5% ABV even in something labelled as alcohol-free.
What I like about this wine and sister wine Wild Idol Alcohol Free Sparkling White 2022 is that they are naturally alcohol-free (with 0% ABV) rather than being produced from wines that have subsequently been de-alcoholised.
Wild Idol Alcohol Free Sparkling Rosé 2023 contains the juice of Müller Thurgau, Dornfelder and Merlot grapes grown in the Rheinhessen area of Germany; these varieties are selected for their fruit-forward character. The wine itself is produced in England by Balfour whose renowned Hush Heath Estate Rosé I stock. They blend the chilled grape juice without fermenting it and add the bubbles under high pressure to create a long-lasting sparkle. The wine has predominantly fruity aromas and flavours such as grapefruit, raspberry and apple with a touch of rhubarb; it tastes dry despite a slightly higher level of residual sugar due to the refreshing acidity, effervescence and very pleasant vibrant finish.
